Black holes are currently some of the most mysterious objects in our known universe. They are immensely powerful and can likely reveal much about how our universe functions on the deepest of levels; however, in order to unlock their secrets, one would need to cross over a point of no return: the event horizon. Due to these characteristics, black holes are apt metaphors for death and seemingly unobtainable knowledge (at least on a human level).

the torrents of destruction assailed me;
the cords of sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears.
